Council Committees

The municipality is a category B municipality with 20 wards and 39 councillors. There are 20 wards and 19 party representatives. The municipality has 6 standing committees: Corporate Services, Infrastructure, IPED, SPU, BTO, and Waste and Refuse. There are also Section 79 Committees: MPAC, Rules Committee, Public Participation, and Women's Caucus. All 39 councillors are serving on their respective committees. The importance of having these committees in a local municipality lies in ensuring good governance, accountability, transparency, and effective service delivery. These structures are established under the Municipal Structures Act and Municipal Systems Act, and they play specific and complementary roles in the administration of local government, personally and professionally.
